Women's Golf Set For Competition In SEC Championships
STARKVILLE, Miss. ?€“ The Mississippi State women's golf team is set to participate in the Southeastern Conference Championship, April 16-18, at the 6,387-yard, par-72 University Club.
"The players have had two good weeks in preparation for the SEC Championship," MSU coach Christi Sanders said. "Right now I see the team playing the best they have played all year. We need that energy to carry over into our conference tournament."
MSU finished ninth a season ago in the SEC Championship with a tournament score of 960. Sofie Andersson led State with a fourth place finish and a tournament score of 222. Last season Auburn captured the tournament championship with a 903. Florida's Aimee Cho also returns to defend her 2003 SEC medalist title.
All 12 teams are ranked in the top 78 in Golfweek with eight teams in the top 30. Fifth-ranked Georgia, seventh-ranked Vanderbilt, 10th-ranked Auburn, 13th-ranked Florida, 21st-ranked Tennessee, 25th-ranked LSU, 28th-ranked South Carolina and 29th-ranked Arkansas.
The Lady Bulldogs will start junior Beth Irwin, who has previously led MSU in the last three tournaments. Also participating for the Maroon and White will be Stephanie Godare, Amanda Mathis, Janet Dyer and Ashleigh Korzack.
The three-round tournament will tee off on Friday, April 16th with 18-holes. The tournament will run through Sunday with 8:30 a.m. starts each day. Live stats for the championship can be found at www.golfstat.com.
