Coldwater's Trell Kimmons Signs With MSU Track Team
"Trell was a special signee for our program today, not so much for his athletic achievements, but more due to the type of attitude and character he will bring to our team," said Dudley. "He is another top sprinter that will place our 4x100-meter relay team, as well as our overall team, in position for a national championship."
Kimmons won the Class 2A State Championship in the 100m and 400m as a freshman and a junior at Coldwater High. He battled a hamstring injury his sophomore year, but has rebounded with a stellar senior season.
Currently, he is third in the nation in the 60m with his time of 6.74, tied for ninth in the nation in the 55m dash with a 6.36 and tied for 12th in the nation in the 200m dash with a 21.86. In addition, he now leads the state of Mississippi in the 100m (10.60), 200m (21.41) and 400m (47.87).
"I am very excited about coming to State and being a part of the track team," said Kimmons. "I'm looking forward to furthering my track career and also getting my degree in education. I want to help young athletes better their careers."
Kimmons also ran for the Memphis Elite Track Club where he tied for the fastest indoor time in the country in the 55m with a 6.36 at the LSU Classic Indoor Track and Field Meet in Baton Rouge, La., this past January.
In other sports, he is a two-time Mississippi State Powerlifting Champion and was named Coldwater's best running back for the 2003 season.
