MSU Works In 2-Minute Drill; Croom In NFL Mode
STARKVILLE, Miss. -- Mississippi State entered its final week of spring practice Tuesday in late-November weather conditions and following four days off for the Easter holidays.
But neither the misty rain that greeted the team on the practice fields behind the Shira Athletic Complex, the blustery cold wind that persisted throughout, nor the lengthy inactivity seemed to bother head football coach Sylvester Croom's team.
"Anytime you have that kind of layoff you worry about regressing," Croom said following the 2-hour, 45-minute workout. "But we got back into it pretty well. I thought the offensive line continued to make strides; they're getting a little bit better."
Integral to Tuesday's practice session was team work in the two-minute drill on both sides of the ball, and once again, the offense drew Croom's praise.
"I thought they did pretty well," Croom said. "In fact, they did better than the coach. I had to unlearn 17 years of running the two-minute drill in the NFL. I thought the players did a better job of handling the time situation than the head coach."
The Bulldogs practice again Wednesday and Thursday afternoon in preparation for Saturday's final spring scrimmage as part of Super Bulldog Weekend. The scrimmage, a controlled affair at Davis Wade Stadium at Scott Field., is set for 6 p.m. General admission tickets, priced at $5 each, will be available at the Scott Field ticket office Saturday night.
