MSU To Host Jace Lacoste Invitational On Saturday
STARKVILLE, Miss. --? Mississippi State University men's and women's track and field teams will host the ninth annual Jace Lacoste Invitational on Saturday, April 10, at the W.O. Spencer Stadium and Carl Maddox Track. The final home meet for the two squads begins at 9 a.m. with the men's hammer and men's javelin.
On the men's side, State will compete against Southeast Missouri and Wallace State Community College. The Lady Bulldogs will compete in a group of five schools ? Bevil State Community College, Jacksonville State, Southeast Missouri and University of Alabama at Huntsville.
In a poll released on Tuesday by the Trackwire 25, MSU's women are ranked tied for 25th.
The Bulldogs have set 17 regional qualifying marks and one NCAA automatic qualifying mark at this point in the season. The Lady Bulldogs have two athletes already qualified for regionals - Tiffany McWilliams in the 800m run and Jennifer McPherson in the 1500m run.
The Jace Lacoste Invitational is named for Mississippi State's late all-SEC decathlete, killed in a 1995 automobile accident. Lacoste was a four-year letterwinner of the Bulldog track team from 1987-1990. In 1988 and 1989, Lacoste finished fifth in the SEC Decathlon.
He excelled off the track as well, earning the 1989 MSU Scholar Athlete of the Year and a four-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll. Lacoste was an all-SEC Scholar Athlete and a Dean's List Scholar.
Lacoste served as president of the M-Club, a member of the MSU Hall of Fame and a student senator. In addition, he was listed in Who's Who Among American Colleges and Universities and a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Kappa Alpha Order.
