Bulldogs Begin Second Half Of Spring Drills
STARKVILLE, Miss. -- Two days reviewing the tape from Mississippi State's first full-scale spring scrimmage simply reaffirmed what Bulldog head coach Sylvester Croom thought following this past Saturday's game ? that his defensive line dominated the line of scrimmage.
"I thought until they got tired at the end, they were in control up front," Croom said. "I think they thought the scrimmage was over. They didn't bow up and finish the game. They kind of shut it down."
Even with the way the scrimmage concluded on the defensive side, Croom thought his units accomplished some things, especially for a first scrimmage. Only the quarterbacks met with his disappointment.
Following Tuesday's two and one-half hour practice, however, the Bulldog head coach was more upbeat.
"I thought we corrected some errors from the scrimmage today," Croom said, "and I thought the offensive line showed some improvement. We got some things done in the running game, but we didn't throw the ball well.
"We're about to run out of time," Croom said, noting that Tuesday's work was the eighth practice of an NCAA-limited 15 sessions.
Tuesday's practice was devoted to some situational aspects of the game, and to repeated work on the core offense, defense and special teams.
