Men's 4x100m Relay Team Advances To Finals
AUSTIN, Texas -- MSU's Eliott Morant, Jamel Ashley, Arthur Davis and LaChristopher Lewis took sixth in the prelims of the Clyde Littlefield University 4x100m relay in a regional qualifying time of 40.22, advancing the team to the finals on Saturday at the 77th annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.
"We had pretty good performances on the day," said head coach Al Schmidt. "Top three in the Texas Relays is good for the women's sprint medley team. Travis McKay's mark in the 3000m steeplechase moves him into the top five on MSU's list as a freshman. We are having a good meet and hopefully tomorrow we will come home with some championships."
In the women's sprint medley relay, Lauren Johnson, Kia James, Nicole Dunn and Tiffany McWilliams took third with their time 3:52.14 for third place. The Bulldog team of LaChristopher Lewis, Jamel Ashley, Arthur Davis and Elmore McConnell finished seventh in the sprint medley relay in a time of 3:19.88.
Jason Odom, Brett Marlin, Phillip Moore and Dustin Fier ran the 4x1500m relay in 16:19.60 for seventh place.
Travis McKay took eighth in the 3000m steeplechase with his time of 9:13.90, a career high by more than 23 seconds.
Junior Crystal Averitt finished sixth in the discus with her mark of 150-8, a distance just under her school record (151-6). Christina Hernandez threw the discus a career high 146-5 for 12th-place.
Memphis, Tenn., native JD Erickson recorded a mark of 53-1 3/4 in the shot put for 15th place and threw the discus 160-4 for a 17th place showing.
On Saturday, action begins at 11 a.m. for MSU with Matt Denton competing in the high jump.
