Women's DMR Sets Meet, Stadium And School Record At Texas Relays

AUSTIN, Texas -- MSU's distance medley relay team of Jennifer McPherson, Nicole Dunn, Zita Magloire and Tiffany McWilliams won the event with their time of 11:10.06, setting a new meet record, a Mike A. Myers Stadium and a MSU school record at the 77th annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. The team broke the records they set in 2003 with their time of 11:21.10.
"We went into the relays thinking that if we walked away with two trophies we would be happy," said head coach Al Schmidt. "We are really pleased with what happened at this meet because the Texas Relays is one of the kings of the track and field circuit."
In the finals of the men's 4x100m relay, Eliott Morant, Jamel Ashley, Arthur Davis and LaChristopher Lewis set a regional qualifying mark and a MSU season best mark with their time of 39.74 in the relay.
Lewis, Ashley, Davis and Glenn McFadden won the 4x200m relay for the Bulldogs in a time of 1:22.95. State's men's DMR of Jason Odom, Keston Nelson, Elmore McConnell and Dustin Fier crossed the finish line in 10:13.45 for 18th-place.
Ashley, Lewis, Davis and Morant took eighth in the Cleburne Price, Jr. 4x400m relay in a regional qualifying time of 3:09.14.
Hurley, Miss., native Matt Denton jumped 6-8 3/4 in the high jump for a ninth-place showing.
Next, MSU hosts the Jace Lacoste Invitational on Saturday, April 10, at the W.O. Spencer Stadium and Carl Maddox Track.
