MSU Linksters Travel To Bayou For LSU Spring Invitational
STARKVILLE, Miss. -- The Mississippi State men's golf team ventures to Baton Rouge, La. this weekend to take part in the fourth-annual LSU Spring Invitational at The University Club.
This weekend's action is the first of three-consecutive tournaments for Clay Homan's squad. The Bulldogs will participate in the Billy Hitchcock Intercollegiate on April 9-11 in Auburn, Ala. and close out the regular season on April 16-18 at the Southeastern Conference Championship in Sea Island, Ga.
State is coming off a dual match with Memphis that was played at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Miss. last week. The Maroon and White finished 12th at the Conrad Rehling Spring Invitational in Tuscaloosa, Ala on March 12-14.
It marks the second time that MSU has participated in an LSU-hosted event this season. State played in the LSU/Country Club of Louisiana Intercollegiate during the fall campaign.
The Tigers of LSU have won the previous three Spring Invitational's. Last season, the Purple and Gold fired a three-round total of 868. The 2004 edition of the Invitational includes four teams ranked in the top-50 in Golfweek's weekly rankings, No. 28 LSU, No. 37 Georgia Southern, No. 38 Jacksonville State and No. 44 Central Florida. The rest of the 19-team field includes Arkansas-Little Rock, Arkansas State, Charlotte, College of Charleston, Furman, Louisiana-Lafayette, Maryland, Memphis, Michigan State, Middle Tennessee State, South Alabama, South Florida, Southern Mississippi and Tulane.
Friday's first round will begin 8:00 a.m. on the par 72, 7,274 yard course.
