Hardee And Johnson Complete Day One Of Multis At Texas Relays
AUSTIN, Texas --? Sophomores Trey Hardee and Lauren Johnson completed day one of the decathlon and heptathlon on Wednesday, at the 77th annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, being held at the Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas.
"Trey had a great 100m," said coach Keith Powell. "It was a really good time for a decathlete. In the long jump, he jumped into a little bit of wind, but it was a decathlon personal best for him. He had a career day today."
Hardee is currently in second entering day two of the decathlon with 3985 points. The Vestavia Hills, Ala., native won the 100-meter dash in 10.58 seconds for 956 points. He took fifth in the long jump with a leap of 22-8 for 792 points. Earning 636 points, Hardee finished tied for ninth in the shot put with his career best mark of 40-11 3/4. In the high jump, he set another career best mark leaping 6-4 3/4 to earn 758 points. Hardee earned 843 points in the 400m dash with his time of 49.39 for a third place finish. On day two of the competition, Hardee will compete in the 110-meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1500m.
"Lauren did not get a good start in the hurdles, but she came back in the high jump and had a good effort," said Powell. "In the 200m, she ran into strong wind, but that is the breaks when you are outside. They both competed really well today, and I am proud of both of them."
Johnson holds 2935 points in 13th place heading into the final day of the heptathlon. She finished fifth in the 100-meter hurdles for a total of 914 points. The Scottsboro, Ala., native scored 621 points in the high jump with her measurement of 4-11. She threw the shot put 33-11 1/4 for 552 points. In the her final event of the day, Johnson took third in the 200m dash with a time of 25.43 for 848 points. She competes in the long jump, javelin and 800m dash on Thursday.
Also on Thursday, MSU will be competing in the men's and women's 5000m and hammer throw.
