Bulldogs Don Full Pads For The First Time
The Bulldogs' first off-season drill in full gear began in sunny, warm conditions that had coaches and bystanders in shirtsleeves. By the mid-point of the two and one-half hour practice, however, a front had moved through the Golden Triangle area, lowering temperatures by 20 degrees. That front also brought with it gusty winds and a brief shower that had everyone scurrying for all-weather coats. As State's fifth practice of the spring came to a close, the sun reappeared, but the cold temperatures remained.
Whether it was the initial work in full gear, the weather conditions, or a stomach virus that kept MSU head coach Sylvester Croom confined to a golf cart at the edge of the practice facility behind the Shira Athletic Complex, the head coach was not inspired following the practice.
"I didn't think we got a whole lot accomplished today," Croom said. "It seemed like we were stuck in one speed all day long.
"There was not a lot of hitting going on either, no popping of pads," Croom added. "If you turned your head, you'd think you were at a pillow fight."
The Bulldogs take Wednesday off before resuming practice Thursday, the first day of the MSU Coaching Clinic for high school and junior college football coaches.
