Womens' Golf In Tie For 10th At Liz Murphy Collegiate Classic
Lady Bulldog freshman Amanda Mathis leads MSU after day one
ATHENS, Ga. ?€“ Mississippi State's women's golf team is tied for 10th-place at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic firing a first round score of 305. MSU is tied with ACC foe Florida State and in-state rival Mississippi.
"I am excited with the way we played today. These are the lowest scores we have had all spring," MSU coach Christi Sanders said. "This is what we need to do to have a chance at making the postseason. We need to keep our scores low and beat some of the top teams in the nation."
Freshman Amanda Mathis leads State in a tie for 13th. Mathis fired an opening day score of 73. Beth Irwin and Stephanie Godare are tied for 43rd while firing a first day score of 77. Janet Dyer shot a 78 and is tied for 53, while Ashleigh Korzack is in a tie for 86th with a first round score of 83.
Ohio State is a top the team leaderboard, firing a 291 in the opening round. Host Georgia and Duke are tied for second, just one stroke back. Duke's Brittany Lang is tops in the individual standings after the first day. Lang fired a six under par, 66 to take first. Auburn's Nicole Hage is two strokes back in second, while is Lindsay Knowlton of Ohio State is in third with a 69.
The second round of the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic is scheduled for Saturday with the final concluding on Sunday.
