Women's Golf Set For Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic
MSU's first appearance since 2001-02 season
STARKVILLE, Miss. -- The Mississippi State women's golf team will compete on March 26-28 at the 32nd annual Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic on the 7,000 yard, par 72 UGA Golf Course. This marks the Maroon and White's first appearance at the classic since the 2001-02 season.
"This event is the strongest field we have played all season," MSU head coach Christi Sanders said. "The team needs to perform well at the tournament and at the SEC Championships to have a chance to make post-season play."
The 2004 field includes No. 1 Duke, No. 5 Georgia, No. 6 Ohio State, No. 8 Auburn, No. 10 Oklahoma State, No. 18 Wake Forest, No. 21 Tennessee and No. 23 Furman. Rounding out the field is Alabama, Arkansas, East Carolina, Florida State, Kent State, Kentucky, Mississippi and South Carolina.
MSU will start juniors Beth Irwin, Janet Dyer along with sophomores Stephanie Godare, Ashleigh Korzack and freshman Amanda Mathis.
State is coming off of a 12th-place finish at the Waterlefe Invitational in Bradenton, Fla. Junior Beth Irwin led MSU finishing in 21st-place.
Tee times for the classic are to be determined.
