Women's Golf Set To Play In Waterlefe Invitational
STARKVILLE, Miss. -- The Mississippi State women's golf team will participate in the Waterlefe Invitational March 15-16 at the par-72 Waterlefe Golf and River Club. This is MSU's first appearance at the USF hosted event.
It will be good for the team to get back in competition after a short week of practice, said MSU head coach Christi Sanders. The team started playing better at the end of our last tournament, so I feel like that momentum will carry on into our next event.
State finished fifth out of the 13-teams in the tournament last year, posting a team score of 909. Sofie Andersson and Natalie Booth led the Maroon and White with a tournament score of 222 and a tie for seventh.
Joining MSU in the 2004 17-team field is 16th-ranked Tulane, 39th-ranked Mississippi, 46th-ranked UNC-Wilmington, UAB, Campbell, Central Florida, College of Charleston, East Carolina, Florida International, Georgia State, Kentucky, Louisville, Miami, N.C. State, South Florida, and Southern Mississippi.
The Lady Bulldogs will start junior Beth Irwin, who has previously led MSU at the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic with a 15th place finish. Also participating for the Maroon and White are Stephanie Godare, Amanda Mathis, Ashleigh Korzack and Janet Dyer.
The tournament will be held at the par 72 Waterlefe Golf and River Club. The three-round tournament will tee off on Monday, March 15th with 36-holes and will conclude on Tuesday with the final 18 holes. Both days will begin with shotgun starts.
