State Softball Inks Colorado Pitching Phenom
STARKVILLE, Miss. ?-- Mississippi State softball head coach Jay Miller announced an additional signee to his 2003 recruiting class Tuesday afternoon as Colorado pitching standout Kelli Miller (Colorado Springs, Colo./Liberty HS) inked her name to a national letter of intent to continue her playing career with the Bulldogs.
Kelli Miller comes to Starkville following a standout career in the Colorado prep ranks where she set numerous school, as well as state records. She is expected to contribute immediately at Mississippi State.
"Kelli is a big-time addition to our team," Jay Miller said. "She throws the ball hard and moves it around very well. She is going to come in and help solidify our pitching staff with the talent that she has."
As a prep senior with Liberty, Miller finished out her career in outstanding fashion, collecting her second consecutive first team all-state, all-metro and all-area honors. She turned in a 18-3 record with a 0.45 ERA and helped lead the Lancers to a No. 2 seed at the state tournament. She set the school and class 4A state season strikeout record (206) as well as the Liberty High School career record (619).
A four-year varsity letterwinner, Miller earned Liberty's Defensive Player of the Year honors on three occasions, while taking home Liberty MVP and Wall of Fame honors during her final prep campaign. A letterwinner in soccer as well at Liberty, Miller currently set school records in both shutouts and save percentage during her junior season with the Lancers.
She currently plays with the Oklahoma City Jitterbugs and Colorado Quicksilver and, last season, captured the USSSA National Championship as the ace of the Wichita Chance, She was named outstanding pitcher at the USSSA national tournament.
"I am very excited," said Miller of her signing with the Bulldogs. "The team is great and I am looking forward to working with all three of the coaches."
The daughter of Coy and Brenda Jo Love Miller, Kelli has an older brother, Scott.
