Another All-America Team Honor For Bulldog Southpaw Paul Maholm
The 6-2, 214-pound hurler is a third-team honoree on the 2003 Baseball America All-America team announced Thursday by the North Carolina-based publication.
Maholm, a first-round draft selection of the Pittsburgh Pirates and the eighth player chosen overall in this year's Major League Baseball June draft, posted a 9-2 record with a 2.76 earned run average as a junior. He paced the team and set career-highs with 101 strikeouts and 107.2 innings pitched and helped lead Mississippi State to its seventh NCAA postseason tournament berth in the last eight years. Maholm compiled a 27-10 career record with 267 strikeouts and a 3.54 ERA in 46 appearances.
Maholm, an ABCA All-South Region selection, was previously accorded all-America team honors by Collegiate Baseball (third team), the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (third team) and CollegeBaseballInsider.com (honorable mention).
