Three Bulldogs Named To SEC All-Tournament Team
Freshman pitcher Jamie Gant, freshman second baseman Thomas Berkery and junior third baseman Steve Gendron represented MSU on the all-tournament team.
Gant (5-1) earned both of Mississippi State tournament wins with a pair of solid relief efforts against instate rival Mississippi. The Winona, Miss., product struck out six, and allowed two walks and three hits in 6-1/3 innings of scoreless relief work.
Berkery (.271) went 7-for-14 at the plate, driving in five of MSU's 16 runs. The Sarasota, Fla., native delivered a game-winning, two-out home run in MSU's 12-inning tourney-opening 5-4 win over Mississippi.
Gendron (.331), from Tampa, Fla., got on base eight times in four games, collecting five hits and drawing three walks.
Mississippi State continues postseason play this weekend at Dudy Noble Field, playing host to the four-team, double-elimination Starkville Regional. The pairings for the regional and the entire 64-team NCAA Tournament bracket will be announced Monday at 11:30 a.m. (ESPN2).
