Hardee Seventh After Day One Of SEC Decathlon
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Freshman Trey Hardee ranks seventh in the decathlon after the first day of events at the 2003 SEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by the University of Tennessee.
Hardee performed his best in the sprint events, winning the 100-meter dash (10.68) and finishing fourth in the 400m dash (49.26). He tied for seventh in the high jump (6-3 1/2) and finished ninth in the shot put (37-11 1/2) and long jump (21-11 1/2). The Vestavia Hills, Ala., native finished the first day of the ten-event competition with 3834 points, just three points out of sixth.
Events were delayed by 3:18 because of bad weather in eastern Tennessee. There were reports of a possible tornado touchdown in Knoxville in the late afternoon.
Events begin for State Friday at 10 a.m. et with the women's hammer throw. Hardee will complete the decathlon in the evening session.
