Lady Linksters In 12th Place After Day Two Of The NCAA East Regional
CLEMMONS, N.C. -- After 36-holes, Mississippi State stands in 12th place after the second day of the NCAA East Regional. State fired a 302 on the second day to finish with a tournament score of 608. MSU is eight strokes back of Furman and host, Wake Forest, who are tied for ninth. The Lady Bulldogs are six shots back of Conference USA foe, Tulane, in eleventh and one stroke ahead of ACC foe, N.C. State.
Beth Irwin leads Mississippi State. Irwin shot a second round score of 75. Irwin is in a tie for 37th with a two-day score 150. Senior Anna Knutsson is in a tie for 44th. Knutsson fired a team leading 74 on the second day for a tournament score of 151. Sofie Andersson is in a tie for 52nd. Andersson shot a 77 and is one stroke back of Knutsson. Teammate Janet Dyer is in a tie for 88th, firing an 80 and Natalie Booth is in 92nd, one stroke back of Dyer with a two-day total of 160.
Defending national champion, Duke is still a top of the team leaderboards. Duke fired a 286 on the second day to give them a tournament score of 574. Vanderbilt stands in second with a tournament score of 583 and Georgia is in third, just one stroke back of Vanderbilt. North Carolina shot a 287 to finish in fourth with a score of 588.
North Carolina's Meaghan Francella is the individual leader. Francella fired a 69 in the second round to raise her tournament score to 138. Furman's Brandi Jackson and South Carolina's Kristy McPherson are in a tie for second, one stroke back of UNC's Francella.
The final round of the NCAA East Regional is set for Saturday. Tee times are to be announced. The top eight teams and top two individuals, not on one of those eight teams, advance on to the NCAA Championships to be played May 20-23 at the Kampen Golf Course in West Lafayette, Ind.
