MSU Women's Golf Tied For 12th Place After Day One Of NCAA Regional
CLEMMONS, N.C. -- The Lady Bulldogs of Mississippi State are in a three-way tie for 12th place after the first day of the NCAA East Regional in Clemmons, N.C. MSU fired a team first round score of 306, at the Glen Salem Country Club, to tie with Georgia State and Western Carolina after the first day.
Sofie Andersson and Beth Irwin lead Mississippi State. The MSU duo finished in a multiple tie for 31st after day one. Irwin and Andersson shot four over par, for a first round score of 75. Senior Anna Knutsson is in a tie for 50th, just two strokes back of Irwin and Andersson. Teammate Janet Dyer is in a tie for 71st, firing a 79 and Natalie Booth is in 96th after a first day score of 84.
Defending national champion, Duke, is top of the team leaderboard. The Blue Devils fired a 288 on day one and hold a two-stroke lead over ACC foe, Florida State in second. Three Southeastern Conference schools round out the top five. The Lady Bulldogs of Georgia are in third with 294. Vanderbilt, one stroke back, is in fourth. SEC champion Auburn, shot a 298, to finish the first day in fifth.
There is a tie for first in the individual leaderboard. Furman University's Brandi Jackson and South Carolina's Kristy McPherson fired a three-under par 68 to the lead the individual standings. North Carolina's Meaghan Francella is one stroke back in third after the first day.
The second round will begin Friday with Mississippi State, Penn State, and Mississippi teeing off at 7:30 a.m. ET. The Regional will conclude on Saturday with tee times announced later.
