MSU Signs Texas Middle Blocker Julie Hamilton
Hamilton is a 6-1 middle blocker from Amarillo's Randall High School, where she was a three-year starter and four-time letter-winner for coach Shelly Williams' Raider volleyball team.
"Julie Hamilton will add needed depth to our middle blocker position," said MSU head coach Brenda Bowlin. "She is a hard worker both on and off the court and has the experience and skill level to compete successfully on the collegiate level."
She earned third-team Texas Sports Writers Association All-State and first-team all-district honors as a senior, helping lead RHS to a 29-11 finish. Hamilton, elected team co-captain her junior and senior seasons, piled up a school-record 384 kills with 198 blocks and 18 service aces in 2002 en route to Amarillo Globe-News Super Team and team MVP honors.
The MSU signee was a starting middle blocker on the RHS teams that reached the regional quarter-finals in 2001 and the regional semi-finals in 2000.
Hamilton is a veteran of six seasons of Texas club volleyball, competing on teams that have compiled a remarkable 95-6 composite record. Her 2003 Crown Of Texas volleyball club team, coached by Jim Giacomazzi, posted an 18-1 record.
She is the daughter of Leslie Cruger and Todd Hamilton of Amarillo, Texas.
