Eight Bulldogs Named To SEC Volleyball Academic Honor Roll
This year's academic all-conference team, features 86 student-athletes representing the 11 SEC schools that field volleyball teams. It is based on grade-point averages compiled during the 2001-2002 academic year.
The latest Mississippi State listing includes a foursome of four-time recipients of the award ?€? defensive specialist Katie Carraro of Louisville, Ky., middle blocker Michele Gordon of Littleton, Colo., outside hitter Emily Mounger of Ridgeland, Miss., and setter Dawn Steinhauser of Port Byron, Ill.
Outside hitter Misty Hubenthal of Georgetown, Texas, the lone senior on Mississippi State University's 2002 volleyball team, earned her third SEC Academic Honor Roll distinction.
Also among this year's MSU honorees are junior middle blocker Hilary Chambers of Highlands Ranch, Colo., junior setter Jennifer Hadden of Marysville, Mich., and junior middle blocker Jennifer Rousey of Champaign, Ill. Earlier this month Rousey was selected as MSU volleyball's recipient of the 2002 Newsom Award for athletic and academic excellence.
Since the SEC academic honor roll's inception in 1984, MSU volleyball players have received academic all-conference 64 times, with more than half (33) coming during Brenda Bowlin's five-year term as the Bulldogs' head coach.
