Men's Relay Teams Advance To Penn Relay Finals
PHILADELPHIA -- The Bulldog relay teams came out in full force on Friday at the Penn Relays Carnival, with all three teams competing advancing to the finals.
State's 4x100m relay team of Jamel Ashley, Marquis Davis, Glenn McFadden and Pierre Browne won their heat in 40.17. Their time ranked fifth during the preliminaries, moving them into the championship flight on Saturday.
The 4x200m relay team of LaChristopher Lewis, Ashley, McFadden and Keston Nelson ran the fourth-fastest time in the preliminaries to advance to the championships. The team won their heat in 1:23.70. This will be MSU's second year to be in the Penn Relay championship finals in both the 4x100m and 4x200m relays.
On State's last race on the oval at Franklin Field Friday, the 4x400m relay team of Kelvin Harris, Nelson, Ashley and Elmore McConnell finished fourth in their heat. The team's time of 3:08.46 ranked ninth in the meet, putting the Bulldogs in the 4x400m relay college finals at 5:35 p.m. ET.
In other action, J.D. Erickson finished seventh in the shot put (52-10 3/4). Sophomore Matthew Denton tied for 12th in the high jump.
Events begin on the final day of the 2003 Penn Relays at 7 a.m. with the men's 10K racewalk. NBC will be showing coverage of the Penn Relays starting at 3:30 p.m. CT.
