MSU Men Travel To Georgia For SEC Men's Golf Championships
The three-day event begins on Friday, April 25. Mississippi State tees off on Friday at 9:50 a.m.
In 2002, State carded a final-round score of 303 to finish in 12th place, the team's lowest finish in school history. Codie Mudd, pacing the team, finished the tournament with a 226 stroke total, which tied him for 39th place, after carding a final round of 74 (+4). Mudd was in contention for medalist honors after firing a 71 on day one to put him in a tie for fifth place, but an 81 in the second round dropped him from the hunt.
Auburn took the team crown last year with an 857 stroke total (285-282-290). Florida's Camilo Benedetti won the individual medalist honors after shooting a final round of 68 (70-72-68).
In their last tournament, the Bulldogs improved two spots on the final day of the Billy Hitchcock Intercollegiate to finish in seventh place, their third best finish of the season (306-295-295=896). The three-day tournament was held at the Saugahatchee Country Club, a 72-par, 6,689 yard course, in Auburn, Ala.
Sophomore Joe Deraney paced the team after all three rounds. Deraney finished in a tie for fifth place, a career-best finish, after back-to-back one-under par rounds (73-71-71=215). The Statesboro, Ga., native finished the tournament at one-under par.
