Women, Fifth-Ranked Men's Track Head To Penn Relays
MSU's men, ranked fifth in the country by Trackwire.com, are looking to rise to the top in the relays this weekend. State's 4x100m and 4x200m relay team finished second in both events last year on the oval at Franklin Field. The Bulldogs have three of those legs, all-Americans Pierre Browne, Marquis Davis and Glenn McFadden, back from last year.
State will also have men in the field events, with one looking to add another regional qualifying mark to his accomplishments. J.D. Erickson qualified in the shot put and discus at the Texas Relays and has a chance to add the hammer to his schedule for the NCAA Mideast Regional.
The women's team has six NCAA regional qualifiers coming into the weekend. Both Meggan Hodge and Lauren Johnson look to add a second qualifying mark to their accomplishments this year. Johnson qualified in the 100m hurdles last weekend at TCU and will compete in the long jump.
Meggan Hodge is a 3000m steeplechase qualifier already and could add the 5000m this weekend. The school record-holder in the steeplechase, she currently ranks third in school history in the 5000m outdoors.
Events begin at Franklin Field on Thursday for MSU with the women's discus throw at 10 a.m.
