Former MSU Hoops Trio Makes SEC Academic Honor Roll

A native of Baldwyn and former Northeast Mississippi Community College standout, Gardner capped his two-year MSU career by earning the team's prestigious Babe McCarthy Memorial Award as a senior team co-captain after helping lead the 2001-02 Bulldogs to an SEC Tournament championship and second-round NCAA Tournament showing. The former two-year State letterman made 56 career appearances as a back-up point guard for the Bulldogs. Having completed his secondary education (social studies) degree last December, Gardner is currently serving as an assistant basketball coach at Nettleton High School.
A three-year walk-on for coach Rick Stansbury's Bulldogs, Stidham is a repeat recipient of the league's academic honor. With a degree in teaching/coaching from Mississippi State, he presently serves as an assistant coach on Greg Carter's Starkville High School basketball staff. A native of Mathiston, Stidham made 20 career appearances for MSU, including 13 outings as a senior on the 2001-02 State squad which claimed the SEC Tournament title and earned an NCAA Tournament berth en route to setting a new all-time single-season school standard with 27 victories.
Hailing from Israel, Goffer compiled a 3.6 cumulative grade point average in business information systems at MSU before transferring to NCAA Division II member Assumption College in Worcester, Mass., upon the conclusion of the 2001-02 academic year. Having previously appeared in 31 career contests during his two seasons with the Bulldogs, Goffer most recently averaged 12.6 points, 4.2 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game this past year as a junior at Assumption. As a 28-game starter in 2002-03, he also ranked second in the Northeast-10 Conference in 3-pointers made per game (2.27) and sixth in three-point field goal percentage (43.9%) to help lead the 20-11 Greyhounds to a berth in the NCAA Division II Northeast Regional Tournament.
