Lady Bulldogs In Ninth After Two Rounds At SEC Championships
LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Mississippi State's Lady Bulldogs remain in ninth after day two at the SEC Championships. The Lady Bulldogs fired a 311 on the second day and is 13 strokes ahead of instate rival Mississippi, in tenth. MSU is eight strokes behind host Kentucky, as both teams fired an identical 311.
Freshman Sofie Andersson leads MSU shooting a 73 in today's second round of action. Andersson's two-day total stands at 146 and leaves her in a three-way tie for fourth with Arkansas' Lina Axelsson and Mary Jan Fernandez. Beth Irwin is in a tie for 41st firing an 82 in the second round. Natalie Booth is in 44th shooting a 79 today. Senior Anna Knutsson is two strokes back in a tie for 46th and Janet Dyer is in 59th shooting an 80.
"Sofie (Andersson) had another good round today which helped our team total," MSU head coach Christi Sanders said. "I know the team will go out and give everything they've got with post-season play riding on the final round."
Tennessee still stands as the team leader with a 591 in the first round. The Lady Vols fired a 300 in today's second round. Florida moves into second with a 297 today, moving their two-day total to 593. SEC West foe, Auburn is in third with a 596. Defending SEC Champion, South Carolina is now in fourth, as the Lady Gamecocks fired 308 in the second round. Defending medalist, Kristy McPherson, of South Carolina, remains atop the individuals firing a 71 in today's second round. Tennessee's Violeta Retamoza is in second shooting a 70 today. Florida's Aimee Cho has moved up four spots and is in third, as she fired a 73 in the second round.
The championships will conclude tomorrow with a 9 a.m. ET start. NCAA Regional bids will be announced April 28th.
