State Track To Run At TCU Invitational
STARKVILLE, Miss. -- Mississippi State's track teams run in the fourth annual TCU Invitational Saturday in Fort Worth, Texas.
MSU's men, ranked fourth in the country by Trackwire.com, have 14 regional qualifiers heading into their fifth outdoor meet. State's women currently boast of five regional qualifiers heading to the Mideast Regional.
The duo of senior Pierre Browne and junior Marquis Davis both look to qualify regionally in the 200-meter dash Saturday. The tandem, along with Glenn McFadden, is already qualified in the 100m dash and are a part of MSU's 4x100m relay team that qualified at the Texas Relays.
Two other Bulldogs also look to post their first regional qualifying marks of the year. Senior Chris Boldt could qualify in the 1500m run after being a provisional qualifier in the mile indoors. Junior Keston Nelson has steadily improved his sprint times and has a chance to qualify in the 400-meter dash.
Field events are set to begin with the men's hammer and women's javelin throws Saturday at 10 a.m. Running events start at noon with the women's 5000-meter run.
State's women will look towards a freshman to add to their qualifiers. Lauren Johnson provisionally qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the heptathlon and could add a couple of individual events to her schedule. The Scottsboro, Ala., native leads MSU in both the 100-meter hurdles and the long jump.
MSU competes against teams like Louisville, Iowa State and host Texas Christian at the Lowdon Track & Field Complex Saturday. Field events begin at 11 a.m., with running events starting at noon.
