MSU Women Netters Take On No. 20 Alabama In The First Round Of The SEC Tournament

STARKVILLE, Miss. -- The Mississippi State University women's tennis team (7-13, 1-10) will face the Western Division Champion Alabama (16-6, 6-5) in the first round of the SEC tournament on Thursday, April 17, at 8 a.m. The tournament is being held in Knoxville, Tenn., this year at the Varsity Courts.
During regular season play, Alabama defeated MSU 6-1 in Starkville at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre. MSU's tandem of Anastasia Kugakolova and Magdi Rekasi defeated Marie Lord-Andrade and Nathalie Koppelle in a 9-7 decision for State's only doubles victory. Justyna Switala, at the sixth position, won the Lady Bulldogs only point with a victory over Melissa Minor, 1-6, 7-6(4), 10-8.
Head coach Tracy Lane will send Lady Bulldogs Patricia Assumpcao, Elaine Fagan, Marcelle Hirt, Anastasia Kugakolova, Magdi Rekasi and Yumi Ueda to the courts for the Maroon and White.
Last season, State fell 4-1 to Auburn in the first round of the SEC tournament held in Columbia, South Carolina.
MSU's last victory in the SEC tournament came in 2001 when the Lady Bulldogs defeated the Lady Tigers of LSU 5-2 in the first round.
