MSU Men Finish In 7th At Billy Hitchcock Intercollegiate
Sophomore Joe Deraney paced the team after all three round. Deraney finished in a tie for fifth-place, a career-best finish, after back-to-back one-under par rounds (73-71-71=215). The Statesboro, Ga., native finished the tournament at one-under par, his only under par showing of the season.
One stroke behind Deraney, Codie Mudd shot back-to-back two-under par rounds leaving him tied for seventh place, a season best, with an even par performance (76-70-70=216). Mudd's final round of 70 stroes tied his season low third round score.
Kellen Maurer shot his tournament best round of 75 on the final day leaving him tied in 44th-place at 13-over par (78-76-75=229). Finishing tied in 59th-place, Craig Horrocks had a 236 stroke tournament showing at 20-over par (79-78-79=236). Marshalltown, Iowa native, Jay Giannetto finished in 66th-place after a 31-over par performance (80-84-83=247).
Taking home the team crown was UAB (301-277-298), who won the playoff on the third playoff hole, and Arkansas (294-290-292). Both schools finished the tournament with an 876, 12-over par showing. UAB's Nathan Turner won the individual medalist honors after a three round seven-under par performance (69-70-70).
Next for the Bulldogs is the SEC Championships in Sea Island, Ga., at the Sea Island Golf Club. The tournament will be held April 25-27.
