Lady Bulldogs Finish In Fifth At LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic
Natalie Booth led MSU finishing in a tie for 13th with LSU's Brooke Shelton. Booth fired a 75 in the final round to give a tournament total of 226. Teammate Sofie Andersson finished in a tie for 15th with Line Cordes of Western Carolina and Shelley McGraw of Birmingham Southern. Andersson was just one stroke back of Booth. Beth Irwin placed 25th in a tie with Memphis' Jennifer Jaszek. Irwin fired a 75 in the final round for a total of 230. In her second tournament of the year, Janet Dyer finished in a five-way tie along with teammate Anna Knutsson for 32nd. Both finished the classic with shooting a 234.
"It was a better round today," head coach Christi Sanders said. "I'm excited because it gives us confidence going into the SEC Championships."
UNC Wilmington took top honors in the final team standings. The Seahawks fired a 292 in the final day to give them a classic total of 889. Tulane finished in second with 892 and Memphis fired a total of 905. SEC rival and host, LSU fired a 907 to take fourth. Amelie Farrah of UNCW was the medalist, firing a 72 in the final round. Carolin Landmann of Tulane finished second and Becky Berzonski finished in third.
Mississippi State's next tournament is April 18-20 in Lexington, Ky., as the Lady Bulldogs will take part in the SEC Championships. The host will be the University of Kentucky.
