Davis, McWilliams, 4x100m Relay Team Winners On Final Day At Texas Relays
AUSTIN, Texas -- Mississippi State's track teams had three winners in university finals on the final day of competition at the 76th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.
Junior Marquis Davis led the men's team, clocking a 10.10 in the 100-meter dash to win the university finals. The Memphis native also was a part of the 4x100m relay team that won the university finals of that event. The team of Jamel Ashley, Davis, Glenn McFadden and Pierre Browne rounded the track in 39.16, the fourth-fastest time in school history.
Browne also had some success on the final day. He finished second in the invitational 100-meter dash with a time of 10.09. Browne is the school record holder in the short sprint.
Sophomore Tiffany McWilliams dominated another distance race, winning the 1500-meter run in 4:19.47. This comes after anchoring the distance medley relay team to a win while breaking three records last night.
MSU also ranked second in the 4x200m relay. Davis, LaChristopher Lewis, McFadden and Browne ran the fifth-best time in school history, finishing the race in 1:22.20. The 4x400m relay team of Kelvin Harris, Keston Nelson, Ashley and Lewis also took second, running a season-best and NCAA regional qualifying time of 3:08.15.
Harris also finished fifth in the 110-meter hurdles. The Natchez, Miss., native ran a 13.89, the second-fastest time in school history.
"We had a great meet," head coach Al Schmidt said. "I don't think we've had this much success at a meet like this. We had improvements from most everyone. We're just really pleased with the results."
MSU closes out its home track schedule next Saturday, April 12, with the Jace Lacoste Invitational. Field events are slated to start next weekend at 10 a.m. to kick off Saturday's Super Bulldog Weekend events.
