State Women Win Doubles Against No. 55 LSU
Lady Bulldogs Anastasia Kugakolova and Magdi Rekasi defeated LSU's tandem of Jessica Ferguson and Marina Chiarelli in an 8-4 decision on court two. Marcelle Hirt and Justyna Switala were victorious over Camila Caliari and Daysi Espinal, 8-5, at the third position. Hirt and Switala's victory clinched the doubles point for State. Elaine Fagan and Yumi Ueda fell 8-3 to Rocio Fantilli and Lauren Seaman.
In singles action, Hirt recorded the only victory for State on court three with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Chiarelli. MSU's Kugakolova, in her first match at No. 1, fell 6-1, 6-4 to Fantilli. At No. 2, Rekasi dropped her match to Ferguson, 6-3, 6-3.
State's lone senior Fagan fell 6-4, 6-4 to Lady Tiger Espinal at the fourth spot. Ueda was defeated by Caliari in a 6-3, 6-0 decision. Lady Bulldog Switala fell 6-1, 6-2 to Seaman on court six.
On Sunday, the Lady Bulldogs will return home for their final home match against the Lady Razorbacks of Arkansas. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m. at the Pitts Tennis Centre.
Sunday is also Senior Day honoring MSU's lone senior Elaine Fagan. A special ceremony will be held prior to the start of the singles matches.
