Lady Bulldogs In Action At LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic
This is the Lady Bulldogs 21st appearance in the tournament. This is the fourth time the 22nd annual tournament has been played on the 6,276 yard, par 72 University Course in Baton Rouge. MSU placed 6th in the 2002 edition of the classic as Auburn took top team honors with an 883 and Meredith Duncan of LSU was the medalist with a three-day total of 215.
Participating in the classic for Christi Sanders' Lady Bulldogs is freshman Sofie Andersson, who has paced the team as the top finisher throughout the spring and senior Anna Knutsson, who finished second on the team last weekend. Returning to the line-up for Mississippi State is Natalie Booth after a shoulder injury kept her out of the Bryan National Collegiate. Also joining the line-up are Sophomores Beth Irwin and Janet Dyer.
"The team is ready to go to Baton Rouge and play a challenging golf course," said Coach Sanders. "Four of the five players in the line-up have played the University Course. I feel like this will be an advantage to our team."
Among the 14 team field of the classic is No. 19 Tulane, Augusta State, Birmingham Southern, the College of Charleston, Jacksonville State, Memphis, New Orleans, UNC Wilmington, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, UAB, Western Carolina, Yale, and host Louisiana State.
The tournament will begin Friday and conclude Sunday. It will consist of three days with the first round teeing off at 9:06 a.m. Mississippi State will tee off at 10 a.m. with Western Carolina and host LSU.
