Johnson Fourth In Heptathlon, Hardee Eighth In Decathlon
STARKVILLE, Miss. -- Freshmen ruled day two of the Texas Relays, with both placing in the combined events for Mississippi State.
Lauren Johnson finished fourth in her first collegiate heptathlon, amassing 5,024 points. Trey Hardee earned the most points ever by an MSU freshman in the decathlon, gaining 7,156 points in placing eighth. Both marks provisionally qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in June.
Johnson did best in the long jump, where she tied for second and leaped a career-best 18-10. She also ranked third in the 800m run (2:23.91).
Hardee had his best showings in the pole vault and hurdle events. He won the pole vault in the decathlon, clearing 16-4 3/4. He also finished sixth in the 110-meter hurdles (14.99).
In other action, sophomore Meggan Hodge finished sixth in the 5000m, clocking a 17:43.81. Freshman Mina Thorstenson came in 13th in the same race.
Action continues in the 76th Texas Relays Friday at Mike Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas.
