Johnson Third, Hardee Eighth After Day One Of The Combined Events At Texas Relays
Johnson, a native of Scottsboro, Ala., amassed 3161 points through the first four events. She finished first in the 200-meter dash (25.11), the last event of the day. She ranked second in the 100-meter hurdles (14.09w) and third in the shot put (36-7 1/2). She will have the long jump, javelin throw and 800m run left on Thursday.
Hardee opened the day strong, winning the 100-meter dash with a wind-aided time of 10.63. The Vestavia Hill, Ala., freshman later tied for sixth in the high jump (6-3 1/2) and came in seventh in the 400m dash (50.16). Hardee goes into the final day with 3834 points already earned.
Johnson and Hardee will complete the combined events Thursday afternoon in Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas. MSU will also have competitors in the women's 5000m run and men's and women's hammer throws Thursday. Action for State will start at 11 a.m. with the decathlon's 110-meter hurdles.
