Bulldogs Continue Preparations For Magnolia Cup
STARKVILLE, Miss. -- Mississippi State soccer head coach Neil McGuire took his team through two hours of intensive practice Wednesday afternoon as the Bulldogs continued preparations for Friday evening's home contest against cross-state rival Mississippi in the inaugural Magnolia Cup.
"I was very pleased with the intensity and focus today," said Mississippi State head coach Neil McGuire. "We are continuing to integrate a defensive system into our team concept as it relates to our offensive strategy. We are very much looking forward to playing in the Magnolia Cup on Friday at home. Fans will be treated to a great game."
Prior to the 2002 regular season, officials from both Mississippi State and the University of Mississippi met and planned the Magnolia Cup which will be played in the Spring each year. The game was originally scheduled on Saturday with a Jackson venue but has since been moved to the Mississippi State Soccer Field on Friday evening at 6:30 p.m.
The contest will mark the first evening competition at the facility in school history. The installation of lights at the MSU Soccer Field was completed following the conclusion of the 2002 regular season.
Teams or individuals interested in serving as ball persons for Friday's game should contact MSU assistant coach Robin Confer at (662) 325-0204.
