Mississippi State Track Running At 76th Texas Relays
MSU's men have two titles to defend at Mike A. Myers Stadium this week. Last year, State took wins home in both the 4x100m and 4x200m relays. Three of last year's relay team members, Pierre Browne, Marquis Davis and Glenn McFadden, return for the chance at a repeat.
State is scheduled to have competitors in 15 of the men's events. Browne will compete in the invitational section of the 100-meter dash for the second straight year. Both Davis and Browne are listed to compete in the university sections of the 100m.
Senior Chris Boldt looks to add to MSU's eight regional qualifying marks, running in the 1500-meter run on Friday evening. The Stillwater, Minn., native was a provisional qualifier in the indoor mile earlier this year.
MSU's women head to Austin with four regional qualifiers already. Both Tiffany McWilliams and Crystal Averitt are qualified for two events for the NCAA Mideast Regional in May. Averitt will compete in both the discus and hammer throws, the two events that she holds the record for MSU. McWilliams, a school record-holder in five events, is scheduled to compete in the 1500-meter run.
Events begin Wednesday afternoon for MSU with the decathlon and heptathlon. Freshmen Trey Hardee and Lauren Johnson both compete in their first outdoor combined events. The decathlon starts at 12 noon Wednesday with the heptathlon set for a 12:30 p.m. start.
