State Track Hosts Bulldog Invitational
The men's team took home the win in last weekend's SEC Quadrangular, with three athletes qualifying for the NCAA Midwest Regional meet in May. The women's team ranked second last weekend and had two athletes break two school records.
After sitting out last weekend, senior Pierre Browne and junior Marquis Davis will be ready to start their outdoor season. Both had second-place showings at the NCAA Indoor Championships two weeks ago, with Browne ranking second in the 60m and Davis coming in second in the 200m. Both have a chance to qualify in the 100m and 200m this Saturday.
For head coach Al Schmidt's women's squad, the team will look to sophomore Meggan Hodge as their main competitor. The Beaumont, Alberta, native probably will compete in the 5000-meter run, where she could qualify for regionals.
Sophomore Crystal Averitt will try to shoot down more of MSU's throwing records. She owns two after last weekend's qualifying hammer throw of 175-7.
The Bulldog Invitational will be scored live on deltatiming.com. Results will be posted on mstateathletics.com approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the meet.
Field events are set to begin with the men's hammer and women's javelin throws Saturday at 10 a.m. Running events start at noon with the women's 5000-meter run at W.O. Spencer Stadium/Carl Maddox Track.
