High School, JC Coaches Attend MSU Coaches Clinic
Mississippi State head football coach Jackie Sherrill and his staff served as hosts for the clinic and opened the Thursday session after lunch. New Bulldog coordinators Morris Watts and Ron Cooper lectured on their offensive and defensive schemes, respectively, and first-year offensive line coach Steve Campbell presented his thoughts on offensive line play.
Holmes Community College head coach Hugh Shurden and Long Beach (Miss.) High School head coach Sean Harden also spoke Thursday on defensive play and motivation/discipline, respectively.
The coaches ringed the Complex practice fields watching Mississippi State?s seventh practice of the 2003 spring period. The Bulldogs reached the halfway point of spring drills and prepared for their first full-scale scrimmage of the off-season, set for Saturday morning.
The clinicians were treated to Thursday dinner in the club level of Davis Wade Stadium at Scott Field.
Friday?s session is slated to include Memphis (Tenn.) Melrose High School head coach Ken Ingram, Northeast (Miss.) Community College offensive coordinator Dave Wilkerson, and new MSU wide receivers coach Guy Holliday discussing various aspects of offensive play. Jackson (Miss.) Jim Hill High School head coach Darryl Jones, Collins (Miss.) High School head coach Bruce Merchant and Baldwyn (Miss.) head coach Jimmy Dillinger will discuss their program?s success through the years.
New MSU defensive line coach John Blake and Bulldog coordinator of football operations Rockey Felker will also address the clinic Friday following lunch in the Bryan Athletic Administration Building.
