State Soccer Sweeps Through Weekend Tournament
STARKVILLE, Miss. -- In its second showing of the spring season, the Mississippi State Soccer team got back on track as the Bulldogs swept through the competition with a perfect 2-0 showing at its home tournament on Saturday.
Betty Ann Casey scored a pair of goals in a 2-0 blanking of the Austin (TX) Warriors club organization and Kristin Peterson and Amber Rose each scored once as State rolled over the University of Memphis, 2-0, in the tournament finale. Vicksburg native Courtney Hubert notched the shutout in each of the Maroon and White's contests.
We played very well this weekend, said Mississippi State head coach Neil McGuire. Our team played in a very disciplined fashion and, as a result, we were in command of both games. We have a ways to go to get back to where we should be, but this was a good start.
Every player is buying into our team concept and we are playing as a unit right now which is leading to favorable results. I am very proud of the way our team is accepting the challenge of fixing the problems we encountered in the Fall.
The Bulldogs will get back into action on Tuesday evening when the squad travels to Memphis for a matchup with a club organization from Ireland. Following Tuesday's action, Mississippi State will next travel to Jackson on April 5 to battle cross-state nemesis Mississippi in the Magnolia Cup.
