MSU Pitcher Chris Young Inks With Rockies
The Stow, Ohio, native posted a 5-2 record with a save and a 3.67 earned run average in his just-completed junior campaign at MSU. Young was named SEC Pitcher of the Week May 20 after drawing his first career SEC start and pitching Mississippi State to an SEC Tournament berth-clinching win over instate SEC rival Mississippi.
Young compiled a 14-4 career record with two saves and a 3.74 earned run average in 72 career mound appearances at Mississippi State. He notched two of those wins and earned most valuable player honors during Mississippi State's successful run to the 2001 SEC Baseball Tournament in Hoover, Ala.
Young has reported to Colorado's training camp in Tucson, Ariz., and is expected to begin his professional career in Pasco, Wash., with the Tri-City Dust Devils of the Northwest League.
