MSU Signs Jefferson State CC Pitcher Alan Johnson
Johnson is a 6-1, 180-pound right-hander at Jefferson State Community College in Birmingham, Ala. He has compiled a 3.87 earned run average with 42 strikeouts as a starting pitcher for coach Ben Short's JSCC Pioneers.
"Alan had a great pitching career at Pleasant Grove High School and now is enjoying a stellar freshman year on the mound at Jefferson State," said coach Ron Polk. "We believe he is more than ready to take his pitching skills to the next level in the Southeastern Conference."
Johnson was a four-year letter-winner and three-year starter under coach Joey Lloyd at Pleasant Grove High School. As a senior he paced the Spartans with a miniscule 0.95 earned run average and 87 strikeouts in 73-1/3 innings of pitching. He totaled 198 strikeouts and 16 wins his last three seasons competing in the Birmingham area prep ranks. A member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish Club, Johnson also earned two varsity letters in track.
The MSU baseball signee is the son of John and Denise Johnson of Pleasant Grove.
