Baseball Bulldogs Open Three-Game Series Friday At Auburn
The series wraps up a run of five road games this week for the Diamond Dogs, who split a pair of midweek games at Southern Miss. State scored a season-high 19 runs in a 19-2 win in Hattiesburg and were held to a season-low four hits in a 6-3 loss in the Wednesday night finale at USM.
State returns to Dudy Noble Field next week, hosting UAB (Apr. 23) and West Alabama (Apr. 24) in a pair of 6:30 p.m. games.
Bulldog sophomore left-hander Paul Maholm (7-1, 3.22) is MSU's scheduled Friday night starter and will be taking aim on a sixth consecutive SEC win. Auburn is expected to counter with sophomore righty Colby Paxton (8-2, 3.59).
Mississippi State enters the weekend having won seven of its last 10 games. During that span, Bulldog right fielder Steve Gendron has heated up at the plate. The sophomore from Tampa, Fla., has hit safely in his last 10 games and enters the weekend sporting a team-leading .372 batting average.
The series continues with games Saturday (3 p.m.) and Sunday (1:30 p.m.). The broadcast of all of the MSU-Auburn games can be heard on the 25-station MSU Baseball Radio Network.
