'Dogs, Lady Vols Series Finale Rained Out
STARKVILLE, Miss. -- Due to steady rain and unplayable field conditions, the regularly scheduled game of the three-game set between the Mississippi State (22-16, 5-6 SEC) and Tennessee (31-14-1, 5-6) softball teams was canceled Saturday afternoon. The contest will not be rescheduled. The two teams split a doubleheader Friday evening with Tennessee taking game one by a 2-0 score and Mississippi State forging the split with a 8-1 victory in game two. The two were a part of a full conference schedule slated for Saturday afternoon at various sites around the Southeast. Mississippi State will return to action on Wednesday when the Bulldogs travel to Hattiesburg for a non-conference doubleheader at Southern Mississippi (17-18). First pitch of the twinbill is set for 4 p.m. at the new Southern Miss Softball Complex. Tennessee will again be in action on Tuesday when the Lady Vols return home to host a three-game series with SEC Eastern Division rival South Carolina at Tyson Park. The two will open up the series with a 4 p.m. ET doubleheader and Tuesday and conclude with the series finale on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
