Lewis, Maholm Star For Bulldogs In 7-1 Series-Opening Win Over LMU

Mississippi State scored the first of four runs in the second inning when Matthew Maniscalco drew a bases loaded walk from LMU starter Kyle Huddy (1-1). Matthew Brinson plated two more runs with a single to right, and a fourth run when Maniscalco touched home on a double steal.
Brinson opened the fifth with a single and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Jon Mungle to take a 5-0 lead.

Steve Gendron and Michael Brown also turned in multi-hit plate performances with 2-for-4 showings. All 12 Bulldog hits were singles while two of LMU's three hits were doubles.
Huddy scattered nine hits and was charged with six of the seven bulldogs runs during his six-inning start for the Lions. Scott Sarver retired the three batters he faced in the the seventh and David Barba gave up a run on three hits in the eighth inning.
The teams resume their first-ever series Saturday at 2 p.m.
