Bulldog Signee Teaira McCowan Named Parade All-American

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Teaira McCowan is coming to Mississippi State with some additional hardware as she was named to the prestigious 2015 Parade All-America Girls Basketball Team.
McCowan earned the distinction following a stellar senior campaign that saw her average 19.3 points, 17.1 rebounds and 4.0 blocks for Brenham (Texas) High School.
She was tabbed a repeat Texas Association of Basketball Coaches All-State selection after leading the Cubettes to a 25-8 overall record and a 13-1 district mark.
“I was very surprised to find out I was named a Parade All-American, but I am very honored and thankful to receive such a prestigious honor because I didn’t think I would ever receive something like that,” McCowan said. “It definitely gives me more confidence in my abilities, and now I’m ready to transfer what I did in high school to college and continue to improve from there.”
The 6-foot-7 McCowan capped her prep career by earning a selection to the TABC All-Star Game. She earned five stars from ESPN/HoopGurlz and has been rated as high as the No. 12 prospect nationally and the second-best center.
In addition to being ranked 49th overall in the ESPN/HoopGurlz Top 100, she was rated the 26th-best prospect by Premier Girls Report while Full Court had her 12th overall and the No. 2 center.
All-Star Girls Report also pegged her the No. 2 center and 16th overall.
McCowan represented the United States at the 2014 FIBA Americas U18 Championship, helping the team to the gold medal.
McCowan becomes the second-straight Bulldog to earn the honor, joining 2014 selection Victoria Vivians.
Off the court, McCowan earned all-state honors in track and field after claiming the silver medal in the shot put with a throw of 42-0 at the UIL state meet.
