MSU Women?s Tennis Adds Transfer Madison Harrison For 2015-16

STARKVILLE, Miss. – After a historical 2014-15 season, the Mississippi State women’s tennis Bulldogs hit the ground running in the offseason, adding transfer Madison Harrison from Kansas, head coach Daryl Greenan announced Thursday.
The former Jayhawk joins the Bulldogs after an impressive freshman campaign at KU, which saw her climb as high as second in the singles lineup and first in the doubles order. Harrison finished the year with a 16-12 record, going 12-6 in the spring. She ended the year 13-8 overall in doubles, 8-5 in dual match play.
Harrison, who also saw time at the No. 3 and No. 4 positions, picked up her biggest win of the season against No. 17 TCU’s Palina Dubavets. After earning their way from the second to first position in doubles, Harrison and her partner, Maria Belen Luduena, earned their best win against a tandem from No. 42 Oklahoma.
The incoming sophomore kicked off her first year with the Jayhawks posting four wins in the fall in singles play, while going 5-3 in doubles. Harrison tallied her first-career victory against Ole Miss’ Marija Milutinovic. Harrison earned her first-career tandem win with Rachel McNeely in her second doubles match of the fall.
Before entering the collegiate ranks, Harrison was a standout at the high school level, attending IMG Academy while travelling individually around the world to play in ITF junior tournaments. The four-star signee was ranked No. 66 on TennisRecruiting.net’s class of 2014 chart and was tabbed as the 13th-best player in Florida and ranked No. 22 in the Southeast.
Harrison posted a 22-18 overall mark, including going 7-1 against four-star recruits and reaching a ranking as high as No. 62 nationally on April 9, 2014. Harrison reached the round of 32 at the USTA International Spring Championships in March of 2014 and advanced to the round of 16 at the USTA Florida Level 3 at Lakeland in 2014. A year prior, Harrison made the quarterfinals of the South Carolina ITF and was champion of the Serendipity L7 State Warm-Up.
“I am very excited Madison will be joining our program this fall,” Greenan said. “I believe she will make an immediate impact in our lineup. She is a very talented player with a valuable year of college experience. She has already proven herself in a major conference and I am excited to see her compete in the SEC.”
The daughter of Pat and Susie Harrison and a Bradenton, Fla., native, Harrison majors in exercise science and plans on a career in the medical field after graduation.
