16 Athletes Receive USTFCCCA All-American Honors

STARKVILLE, Miss. – After both Mississippi State track and field teams finished in the Top 20 at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, 16 athletes received USTFCCCA All-American honors, the association announced Monday.
After being crowned the 1500m run national champion this past weekend with a time of 4:09.56, Rhianwedd Price earned First-Team All-American status.
Erica Bougard was also named a First-Team All-American in the heptathlon. At the NCAA Championships Bougard finished fourth in the heptathlon with a total of 6,050 points. Bougard also was named a second-team All-American in the 100m hurdles where she finished 15th with a time of 13.19 and received honorable mention in the high jump.
On the men’s side, seven athletes received First-Team All-American honors. With a third-place finish in the 4x400m relay, Scottie Hearn, Alfred Larry, Brandon McBride and Charles Taylor clinched the men’s eighth-place overall finish with a time of 3:04.96. McBride also earned first-team All-American honors for the 800m run, in which he placed sixth at nationals with a time of 1:50.11.
Freshman Curtis Thompson had a throw of 247-05, placing third at the championships and also landing him First-Team All-American laurels.
In the high jump, MSU school record holder Marcus Jackson finished fourth in the with a clearance of 7-03.25, earning First-Team All-American accolades.
Zachary Taylor finished 13th in the decathlon with 7,376 points, allowing him to receive Second-Team All-American honors. Both Larry and Hearn also received second-team honors, Hearn for the 400m hurdles and Larry for the 400m dash.
At the NCAA Championships, the women’s 4x400m team comprised of Ocian Archer, Shayla Luckett, Kimari Martin and Ste’yce McNeil finished 11th with a time of 3:35.48 to capture second-team status.
Distance runner Cornelia Griesche also received second-team honors after placing 16th in the 3000m steeplechase. Making it to the finals of the 1500m run, Marta Freitas placed 12th in the event to also be named to the Second-Team All-American list.
Finishing her senior season at the NCAA Championships, Ebony Brinker earned Honorable Mention All-American in the triple after finishing 23rd in the event.
The NCAA Championships marked the end of the 2015 outdoor track and field season.
