Vivians Invited To USA Basketball Pan Am, World Univ. Games Trials

STARKVILLE, Miss. – After proving herself as one of the nation’s top freshmen, Mississippi State’s Victoria Vivians has been invited to participate in the 2015 USA Basketball Pan American Games and World University Games Team Trials.
Vivians will join 53 others for the Team Trials May 14-17 at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Trials will be used to compile the 12-person rosters for the Pan American and World University Games. The member of each squad, or finalists for each team, will be announced May 17.
Vivians earned the invitation following a heralded rookie campaign that saw her earn Associated Press All-America Honorable Mention accolades after averaging 14.9 ppg, the best clip by an SEC rookie and the third highest regardless of class.
The Second Team All-SEC and SEC All-Freshman Team selection also topped rookies in scoring in conference games with 13.8 ppg. That tally included an MSU freshman-record 39 points at Kentucky, a total that tied for the most in the nation by a rookie this season.
The Carthage, Miss., native was named MVP of the Preseason WNIT following her first four collegiate games and was tabbed to the Las Vegas Holiday Hoops Classic All-Tournament Team. She also earned four SEC Freshman of the Week honors and MSU’s first USBWA National Freshman of the Week accolade.
Vivians, who averaged 17.5 ppg against ranked opponents, became the first freshman to win the Gillom Trophy as Mississippi’s top female college basketball player.
She capped her first season in Maroon & White rating ninth in the SEC in field goal percentage (36.8 percent), third in 3-pointers made (2.0) and percentage (32.7 percent) and seventh in free-throw percentage (74.6 percent).
The Pan American Games will be played July 16-20 in Toronto, Canada, while the World University Games will be held July 4-13 in Gwangju, South Korea.
