UPDATED STATS: 23 Diamond Dawgs In Professional Baseball
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Twenty-three former Mississippi State baseball players are currently in professional baseball, including five currently playing in Major League Baseball. Below are their updated stats following games which ended Monday, May 25, 2015. Please tweet any corrections to @HailStateBB.
BULLY BYTES:
- 2014 MSU All-American Jacob Lindgren made his MLB debut on Memorial Day.
- Lindgren became the first Yankee since Deion Sanders in 1989 to make his big league debut within a year of being drafted.
- When Lindgren arrived at Yankee Stadium for Sunday’s game, he had quite the hard time getting in.
- On June 9, Lindgren could be the first person younger than Bryce Harper to pitch to the Washington Nationals phenom.
- A year ago, Lindgren was pitching for MSU in the 2014 NCAA Lafayette Regional.
- Yankees’ skipper Joe Girardi was highly complementary of the former MSU southpaw.
- Kendall Graveman rejoined the Oakland Athletics and was absolutely sensational this past Saturday in Oakland’s 5-0 win at Tampa Bay.
- Hunter Renfroe, the top prospect in the San Diego Padres organization, is starting to get on a roll lately.
- San Antonio Missions’ manager Jamie Quirk says Renfroe “has a bull’s eye on him.”
- Texas Rangers’ slugger Mitch Moreland has been raking lately, and is on a season-best hitting streak of nine games.
- Brandon Woodruff had his best pro start this past week.
- So far for Altoona, the Double-A affiliate for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Adam Frazier has started games at shortstop, third base, designated hitter and all three outfield positions.
- Luis Pollorena, who has overcome adversity in his life, dominated his Opening Day debut with his hometown Laredo Lemurs.
